Ancient Ras Amiya

A small site near Kish in southern Mesopotamia. It consisted of a small mound entirely below the alluvium which was only discovered by accident. Excavations found pottery of Hajji Muhammad type now generally regarded as an early phase of the Ubaid Culture of the earlier 5th millennium BC. Architectural remains were of rectangular houses arranged around courtyards. Occupation continued into the full Ubaid period ..... (AHSFC)
