Ancient Kellis lies in the Dakhleh Oasis which is 800 kilometres southwest of Cairo and has been inhabited since prehistoric times. In 1988 two almost perfectly preserved wooden books (codices) were found abandoned in the kitchen of a fourth-century house at the site of Ismant Kharab in the Dakhleh Oasis of Egypt. Between 1991 and 1992 others were found in a neighbouring house plus thousands of fragments of ancient texts written upon papyrus .....
