Chapter 3 : Neolithic 1 (Pages 84-87)

Mesolithic 2 seems to have come to an end about 8500 BC throughout the Levant and I shall take this date as the beginning of the Neolithic. The Neolithic did not finally run its course in the southern and central Levant until the 4th millennium about 3750 or 3500 BC when the Chalcolithic began. The Neolithic of the Levant therefore lasted about 5000 years .....

The Ancient Levant

Designation of the region in the eastern end of the Mediterranean Sea: Israel -- Lebanon -- Syria -- Jordan. The word comes from the French word lever which means to rise in English and is an equivalent of the Arabic Mashriq -- the country where the sun rises. The introduction of the word in world vocabulary came with the French mandate of Syria and Lebanon which lasted from 1920 until the mid-1940's .....
